Big Changes May Be Coming to the Former Surf Coaster Site

Big changes may be on the horizon for one of the most nostalgic properties in the Lakes Region. According to reporting from The Laconia Daily Sun, the former Surf Coaster USA site at the corner of White Oaks Road and Endicott Street East in Weirs Beach has been purchased by Edgewater Development Group in a $3.3 million deal.

The early concept, known as Lakeview at White Oaks, envisions a master-planned, year-round neighborhood spread across roughly 14 acres. The proposal includes approximately 150 residential units made up of a mix of apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes, along with shared open space and a strong emphasis on walkability and lake views. Developers have also floated the idea of small neighborhood-scale commercial uses, such as a coffee shop or ice cream stand.

What makes this location particularly notable is its setting. The site offers sweeping views of Lake Winnipesaukee, sits directly across from Weirs Community Park, and is within walking distance of Weirs Beach — all while being just about ten minutes from downtown Laconia and Meredith. The development team has indicated the project would likely be built in phases over several years, with no pricing or firm timeline established at this stage.

While the plans are still conceptual, this proposal reflects a broader trend we’re seeing across the Lakes Region: a shift toward more intentional, walkable, and year-round communities. As this moves through the city’s planning process, it’s a project worth watching — not just for the Weirs, but for what it signals about future development in the region.
